This project aims to collaborate with homeschooling parents in Taiwan and probe into the local practice of education in Taiwan. Departing from rural fields as a concrete learning base and forming alliances with homeschooling parents and related organizations, this project is expected to develop a new type of education, to build up a variety of real-world “Learning Corners” in rural areas, and to identify the (teaching/learning) essence of “Non-School Education”. Since this project is a participatory action research, the management and operation of communities become extremely crucial. The abovementioned collaboration is relied upon as a niche, through which the common recognition of “Rural Areas” as a drawback might be transformed into an advantage, while managing to still maintain the original value during the action of shortening the urban-rural gap. One major idea behind this project is that in order to both shorten the urban-rural gap and innovate (local) industries, a new imagination and operation are required, and the subjectivity of such “shortening” needs to be examined and verified. As far as this project is concerned, rural communities are not just locations allowing homeschooling parents and/or organizations to move in from the outside with community resources, but are also important partners for working with on creating a mutual-beneficial education model through which educational human resources and applicability can be introduced from cities to the countryside, thus hopefully facilitating further development or even initiating alternative development. In a nutshell, the ultimate objective of this project via “Rural Learning Corners” is to create a “Volunteer Platform” that enforces as well as empowers the minorities.
